Must visit that pub next time I'm in Christchurch (which will be in a couple of weeks!). Love being served a proper pint. Agree with you, let's start advertising the price of beer per 100ml instead.

Go to Moon Under Water… great spot if not with proper pints though.

We’ve just opened a wine bar, ground, in Auckland’s CBD. We charge $10 for a Heineken bottle, can of Sawmill Pilsner and a few more. Reasonable pricing we believe.

Exceptionally good pricing! I should point Stuff in your direction :)

Will check it out!

$16 575ml pints! That's a more effective tourism slogan than the government's recent efforts 😂

Bastard Rye was a great way to celebrate another year of existence recently but I won't be having another in a hurry - my head was spinning (its viscous palate belies a vicious after-effect). Re the photo, as with beers of that ABV the head disappears very quickly after the pour.

Yes — anything viscous is likely to vicious! Love that word play. And double yes, barrel-aged / aged = no head retention, always

I don't shop for a pound of flour or anything else in imperial measure, so the whole "pint" story is completely lost on me, unless of course the large beer I've ordered turns up in vessel that holds 568.261 millilitres, and then I just think bonus !

I was going write at length about all that… but bored myself even thinking about it :)

I think people, drinkers mainly, use “pint” as a kind of shorthand for any container of beer. A weird anachronism given we officially did it away with imperial measures shortly after I was born…

I went to Shed 22 in Wellington last weekend (that's the old Macs Brewbar venue). $15.50 for a 500mL tap Heineken. I guess the same volume logic - a bottle of 330mL would be $10 so it's the same $ per mL. Just feels a bit outrageous.

That’s pretty steep for a beer of that calibre! Twofold up here in Auckland have 500ml mugs of lager for about $11 from memory. But yes the calculation back to 330ml means it’s all relative.

The church is a good spot, one of the few places to get 1812 these days too.

Well, getting 1812 is a strong reason to go there! Had a great 1812 on tap at Albar in Dunedin last year and it was a real nostalgia trip.
