The old adage "beer is recession proof" doesn't always hold up, but in my time I've seen beer rally in extremely tough times, notably during the GFC Craft saw real growth in the USA.

I find On-Premise in Sydney is generally less expensive than in NZ, especially if you know your way about. Off-Premise is another thing all together though compared to NZ, where we still can still pick up plenty of good reasonably priced beers.

With Auckland's never-ending summer melting down my beer appetite, I'd pick the two pilsners and the tiny lager from today's selection. I'll bookmark the complex 6%-plus IPAs for when the weather cools.

I hear you! I’ve been drinking lots of lighter beers too, and that Bright IPA is exceptionally close to a Pilsner in its malt profile.
